AUDITIONS FOR CASTING;

For each production, members who would like to be considered for a principal role are asked to audition in front of a panel.

The Director, Musical Director and (depending on the show) Choreographer will select material from the show for each
character audition. To audition for a part, you will usually be required to;
1) Learn one (sometimes two) songs from the show.
2) Learn a section of dialogue (usually one scene).
3) Depending on the show / character, a movement / dance audition or workshop may be required and set by the choreographer.

The audition panel for casting include;
1) the director
2) musical director*
3) choreographer**
4) an exec committee member
5) society chair
(to observe)
6) society secretary (to administrate)
7) an outsider (usually from another local society)
8/9) readers***

*often, the musical director will play the piano during auditions but on occasion, the MD may request a pianist.
**depending on the show, we may not require a choreographer.
***usually one male & one female to read in (have been known to
stand in) for the parts required for the chosen
audition dialogue.

audition pianists (if not the MD) along with the readers are asked to step out while casting and auditions are
discussed and casting is finalised.

If parts remain uncast after the 1st audition, a date for 2nd auditions will be set for the remaining un-cast roles.
If parts are still un-cast after the 2nd audition, they can then be offered by the panel to members or non members
(in which case, the membership fee will be waived)

successful auditionees (on the day of auditioning) will receive a phone call from the society secretary to offer parts.
once roles have been accepted, a cast list will be uploaded onto the website and also sent via text to those who auditioned.
